Importance of Art
In this statement it is basically saying students who go to public schools should be focused more so on obtaining jobs that are considered normal everyday jobs like being a store manager or a fire fighter instead of becoming an actor or musician. They say art is irrelevant and isn't as useful as someone who is a bagger at Publix and is someone who will not be able to compare their pay to a bagger. This is untrue. People who make art are widely used in many different forms. They create posters for companies. They create Jingles for ads. Art is a form of learning that can be used in any workforce scenario and it doesn't have to mean you wont obtain a job because you learned art in high school, you will just have a hobby or an extra trait that can assist you in whatever job you choose.
An example of this would be where I currently work. I work at a fast food establishment. My managers and Co workers have seen that i can create art from small pieces of paper I find and have asked me to create small things for the company. They have asked me to create small info posters to place on the building. I have been placed in charge of writing important notices on the board in the back of the building for the staff to capture their attention. Had I not learned Art in high school I wouldn't be as useful as I am now where I currently work. So Art is still relevant even where you don't go into it as a full time profession, it can open small doors for you in life and provide you with useful benefits.
